(comment) The mid-air breakup of the British Overseas Airways aircraft occurred the day after the Canadian Pacific Air Lines Flight 402 landing accident. The aircraft got caught in turbulence near Mount Fuji, broke apart in mid-air, and crashed. Damage to the airframe was severe, including crushing of the horizontal and vertical stabilizers and the detachment of all four engines, and it was shocking that photos of the falling wreckage had been taken. Employees of a refrigerator manufacturer from Minnesota and film crew members from the "007" production shooting in Japan were among the victims.
