(comment) One evening, after burying an acorn given to her by Totoro in the soil and eagerly awaiting its sprout, Satsuki is suddenly awakened by a rhythmic sound coming from outside. She sees Totoro and his gang dancing in the garden, trying to make the acorn sprout. She calls Mei over, and they rush outside, looking up at the sky together. Satsuki and Mei rejoice at the acorn sprout popping out with a "pop!" thanks to Totoro's all-out effort, and they stretch their bodies out as far as they can in delight. This second encounter with Totoro in the middle of the story is a wonderful scene where the two girls' feelings change from surprise to joy and excitement, as their initial dreamlike encounter with Totoro gives way to a second confirmation that he truly exists. Their relaxed and joyful expressions are clearly visible.
